Out with the old. In with the new!

Is this true?

Here we are, on the threshold of a brand spankin' new year. It's about 11:30 pm on New Year's Eve...2018 is almost here. In the USA where I live, I have heard people say, "Out with the old and in with the new!" I ask myself, do I really believe that's possible? If I, or anyone else says I or they believe it, do we in our deepest heart really mean that? For myself, I believe and know it is true in my life.

You can't move away from yourself.

We all know that changing on the outside and changing in the deepest part of ourselves are very different things. It's possible to change behaviors and act differently. People do it all the time. Some people want a change so badly that they move away where no one knows who we are. Starting a new life instead of facing themselves and others seems easier. The problem is, no matter where you go, you are still with you. The you or me that people see on the outside and the you or me that lives in that vulnerable place deep within your soul is still going to be with us. You can't move away from yourself.

We all make mistakes

I don't know of anyone who doesn't regret decisions they have made. I have regrets I would change if only I could. My decisions caused me pain and caused other people pain too. Do you know what I mean? It is a real problem. Facing myself to unload my boatload of mistakes - or "sin," that weighed me down was not easy. Some of the mistakes weighing me down were mistakes other people made. These mistakes were painful and weighed heavily on my soul.

Out with the un-dead and in with the Living Hope

Looking back over my life, I see that stuffing them down only makes them the un-dead within me. The un-dead raise the specter of their presence and sometimes manifest in behaviors I don't want to own or admit. The un-dead bring on overeating, under eating, perfectionism, addictions, compulsive behaviors that seem uncontrollable, anxiety... the list goes on but the good news is, it doesn't have to. There is an answer to the problem. I found it in the love of Jesus Christ, the living hope.

In with the new!

On this New Year's Eve 2017, I wanted to encourage you. There is hope. Not a false hope but a real hope that is life changing. You see, believing in Jesus as your Savior causes a change in you that affects your eternal destiny. When you believe in Jesus as your Savior and confess Jesus as your Lord a change takes place in your spirit, you are born again spiritually and begin a new life. Isn't that wonderful? God no longer looks at you as a sinner but sees you in robes of righteousness. He has made you new. You can start again. Your identity is changed. You are a new creation. You are spiritually a baby in Christ and from that day forward you grow to know Him better and become more and more like Him as He guides you and heals the hurts in your life. You can count on Him. He never leaves you or forsakes you. He does not lie. His character is trustworthy.

The old is gone, the new has come

Will people still see you and remember mistakes you have made? They might but God chooses not to remember the mistakes or sin as He calls them. The Bible, the book about Him, says that when we are saved He separated our sins as far as the east is from the west. So we don't have to run or hide or pretend to be something we are not. We can go forward, even if life isn't perfect on this earth and we have to live with the consequences of sin in our lives. So, for a Christian, the old is gone and the new has come.

Dear reader, if you don't know Jesus as your savior, you can.

Today you can talk to God wherever you are. This is called prayer. Just say, "Dear Jesus I am a sinner and need you as my savior. I ask you to be my Lord. I surrender my life to You." If you truly believe, the Lord says you are now adopted into His family for all eternity. Spiritually, the old is gone and you can live in this new relationship with your Lord Jesus Christ. If you made this decision, I rejoice with you! Welcome to the family! I would love to hear from you, Bobbie
